Members from the Bethel
Bible Church in Seaforth are
leaving next month and
heading to Mexico and
Columbia for a "short term"
missionaries project.
Gerrid Dalton, 30, from
Seaforth is the youth leader
at Bethel Bible Church, he
said he cannot wait to help
the people in Columbia, a
noble deed he's been part of
for the last seven years. An
assignment he believes is a
calling from God and some-
thing he feels rather passion-
ate about.
"We could send money,
we could send thousands of
dollars and hire locals to do
that work. It's about spend -
'ng that time with those
kids," explained Dalton.
His primary duties will be
to help with the construction
of a children's home that
lodges about 90 youngsters
for schooling. It also houses
24 children overnight from
Monday -Friday and four
reside there permanently.
"The biggest thing I find
here (Canada) is kids have
choices, you go to Mexico or
Columbia, those kids have
no choices," stated John
Blanchard, a deacon at the
Bethel Bible Church in
Seaforth.
"I love it there, its a good
time to realize how good we
have it here."
Similar to Dalton's assign-
ments in Columbia, he will
be doing the same in Mex-
ico. Blanchard, 55, has a
background in construction,
so he said it will be a "com-
fortable place" for him.
Bob Hulley, 58, also a
member of the the Bethel
Bible Church in Seaforth is
joining Dalton in the Colum-
bia quest. He said when he
leaves Canada, he will arrive
in Columbia equipped with
a laptop because of his place
of employment requires him
to do so. It's also a way he
communicates with the chil-
dren he meets during the
voyage.
"Surprisingly the kids in
Columbia and Mexico have
Facebook," he said.
This has been almost a
decade of volunteering their
time, for now, the trio said,
they have no intentions of
stopping their missionary.
"As long as God keeps call-
ing me to do it," Dalton said.
