Huron Expositor, 2016-12-28, Page 14A memory of the warmer weather The Seaforth Food Bank Community Garden has been put to bed for the win- ter following another very successful growing season. Along with several beds dedicated to the Food Bank, 14 individual gardeners grew a variety of vegetables and were generous with their financial and produce donations to the Food Bank. Two new exciting additions were gardening groups from St. James School led by Helen VanBakel and Seaforth Public School led by Kathy Rivett. The students lined out the rows, planted seeds, weeded and watered the beds and harvested the produce until the end of the school year. Then VanBakel and Rivett took over the maintenance, in doing by the harvesting and delivery of produce to the Food Bank throughout the summer. The Seaforth Public School had installed composters at the school and at the end of the season; the enthusias- tic gardeners loaded it onto a trailer and then spread it on their allotment for next year. Garden allotments at the Community Garden are available to anyone wishing to grow their own produce. In addition to our in ground beds, the community garden added five raised beds in 2015 and will be adding two more in the spring of 2017, all thanks to Paul Vander- Molen. They also have space available to increase the number of in ground beds if the requests for allotments continue to grow. Water is available from the arena and we also collect rainwater from the arena roof and distribute it in water bar- rels throughout the garden area. r1 SEAFORTH OPTIMISTS 2016-2017 TRAVEL TIE WORLD & CASH LOTTERY WIRERS December Winners $1250 CASH Lisa Campbell $100 CONSOLATION • Grace Dolmage • Kevin Gerritts • ■ 1 • ■ Brodhagen & District Chamber of Commerce Men's Euchre Tues.
