Fatal crash near Vanastra
Just after 4:35 p.m. on
Tuesday, December 6,
Huron County OPP, Central
Huron Fire Department and
Huron County Paramedic
Services responded to the
crash scene located just west
of Vanastra on London Road
(Highway 4) at 7th Avenue.
The preliminary investiga-
tion has determined the
driver of a Chevrolet Malibu
was travelling southbound
on London Road when he
encountered traffic that was
stopped on London Road
that was waiting to turn left
onto 7th Avenue. The driver
of the sedan maneuvered
around the stopped vehicles
by passing on the gravel
shoulder, however the driver
lost control of his car as he
entered back onto the trav-
elled portion of the road-
way. The sedan then crossed
into the northbound lane
and was struck on the pas-
senger side by an armoured
truck.
The sole passenger in the
sedan was pronounced
deceased at the scene. She
has been identified as Beth-
any Blanchard, 17 years of
age from Clinton.
Blanchard was a grade 12
student at C.H.S.S. and one
of seven kids in her family.
A statement put out by the
Avon Maitland District
School Board said, "Bethany
will be remembered as a
happy, bubbly, and caring
young woman that did what-
ever she could to make oth-
ers smile. She was truly a
bright and talented student
in her classroom, loved
school and enjoyed being
with her friends:'
It said, "The school dis-
trict's team of counsellors, as
well as members of the
Tragic Events Response Sup-
port Team, will be at Central
Huron Secondary School
today and will be available to
students, their families and
staff members for as long as
