Boot Award.

making it to the podium as he sprays the crowd
with Champaign. He placed third in the Pro
Super -Final.
The 2014 Country Music Association of Ontario
award winner for Rising Star, Jordan McIntosh
performed for a huge crowd at the Walton
Raceway last Saturday.

Motocross fanatics came
by the thousands in Wal-
ton for the Canadian
Grand National Champi-
onship for amateurs and
the National Open pro and
semi -pro.
This year the competition
was a little different from the
previous years, said Brett
Lee, President & General
Manager for Walton
Raceway.
"We changed everything,
we started from scratch and
I'm pretty happy about that,"
stated Lee after the winners
left the podium.
"We took on our own pro-
gram and created our own
brand."
To intensify the last 10
minutes of the race which
some people have been
calling the "sleeper," they
cut the MX1 and MX2
motos down to 20 minutes,
in doing so this leads to an
all out sprint to the finish
line.
The top 18 from each moto
went forward to the 25 min-
utes plus -2 lap Pro Super -
Final. This is when the racers
had one chance to see if they
can hold the sword and be
the King of Walton.
This move gives leeway to
break away from the national
series, from here on out Wal-
ton Raceway has it's own
independent event.
To spread their wings in
other ventures to dignify
their sovereignty, they were
able to sign a deal with The
Sports Network (TSN),
which meant it was
streamed live.
The weekend came with a
list of events, one of the
crowd favourite had to be
the concert of Cold Creek
County and Jordan McIn-
tosh, which was postponed
after Jordan McIntosh fin-
ished because of heavy
thunder and rain. After a
couple hours the show
rocked back up around 11
p.m. last Saturday.
Lee considered the whole
event to be a success but the
solid turnout of about 730-
740 amateurs competing is
what impressed him the
most.
After the concert and all
the amateur races were done
the crowd gathered to watch
the National Open pro to see
who would be victorious at
the Superfinal and be the
person to win the record
purse of $30,000.
After a tough fight Kaven
Benoit rode out as the 2016
champion, making him the
King of Walton.
"Right now he's one of the
top Canadian riders and he's
incredibly fit," Lee said.
Lee went on to say that a
big part of Benoit's success is
his trainer, numerous -time
national champion, Jean
Sebastien Roy.
Joey Crown, 17, from
Michigan came in third
place and he told the Exposi-
tor, the most difficult part of
the race was the starting
gate.
"Kaven had a good start, I
was back buried about 10th
place," said Crown.
"He rides great don't get
me wrong, I thought if I
would have had a better
start, I would have been able
to bang bars with him a little
better."

Season is done, here are the champions
U18 Girls
A strong defensive semi-
final game by the St.
Columban squad would
end in a 3-2 victory on Sat-
urday August 13 in Sea -
forth. Nicole Whyte fed
a nice pass to Dani
Schoonderwoerd who
would open the scoring
with her left foot. A short
while later Bre Schoonder-
woerd would make it 2-0
after a nice feed from
Emma Flanagan. Clinton
fought back with a couple
of markers, but Lexi Tem-
pleman would seal the win
with a goal from in close on
a pass from Myah Vinger-
hoeds. St. Columban came
to play and delivered their
best effort of the season.
On Saturday, August 13
in Seaforth the St. Colum -
ban U18 girls met Wingham
for the NHSL (North Huron
Soccer League) gold medal
game. Wingham has a solid
team and finished first
overall and would score
first. Lexi Templeman
evened the score a short
time later on a nice individ-
ual effort. Play was back
and forth with good scoring
chances at both ends, how-
ever, the score remained
tied at one throughout both
regulation play and 20 min-
utes overtime. After five
penalty shots, the score was
knotted at two with Dani
Schoonderwoerd contrib-
uting the goal for St.
Columban. A miss by
Wingham and a goal by Bre
Schoonderwoerd on the
sixth shot would clinch the
medal for St. Columban.
An outstanding effort by
the entire team today, eve-
ryone, including the call-
ups, came to play and did
their job. Special thanks to
Coaches Frank and Kelsey
Flanagan for a fantastic
season.

championship in Brussels. It
was a nailbiter, as the action
went back and forth between
the two teams for the entire
game. Goderich earned the
first goal in the first half,
leading 1-0. Then midway
through the 2nd half Allysa
Greidanus scored with an
assist from Kiara Driscoll
and Taylor Rolleman. It
stayed 1-1 until the end and
the game went into O/T, with
Allysa scoring the winning
goal. Goaltenders Katie
Roth and Gabi Bolotti stood
strong in net for the team.
The entire team played a big
part in the winning of the
game.
