The Rio 2016 Olympics
that have officially begun
involves humans pushing
their bodies to the extreme,
with all sights on winning
gold and becoming a living
athletic legend.
While all this was happen-
ing, the Seaforth Agricultural
Society was hosting a mean-
ingful event of their own. To
be the champion in this
country -like competition,
one must know their way
around their rural
surroundings.
These are no Olympians,
but seeing as this is a place
that eats and breathes farm-
ing, this title is better than
that.
What better name for
these games, originating in
reference to agricultural
employees suffering a sun-
burn to the back of their
necks after toiling for hours
in the fields, but the Redneck
Farmer Games.
Out of the four teams, the
Vandalism's, walked away
with the 2016 Redneck
Farmer Games gold painted
trophy. They consisted of

Bolinger, Tony Gerretsen,
Elisa Bolinger and Kendra
Redegeld.
These summer games
were compiled of eight
events, including the hungry
heifers, ball breaking, farmer
relay, coffee break, bale toss,
needle in a haystack, planks
for coming, flickin' caps,
mud pit tug of war and belly
flops.
Entering the event's third
year and a crowd -favourite
since its inception, the finale
involves numerous people
including children jumping
into the big mud pit.
"I didn't jump in the mud
pit because I had to go to
work after. My kids did
though," said Redegeld, a
member of the Seaforth
Agricultural Society and the
person responsible for
brainstorming new ideas for
the Redneck Farmer Games
with Yvette Haney.
Through a private mes-
sage over Facebook, Rede -
geld stated that they are hop-
ing to do it again next year.
However, in 2018 they are
expecting to change the date
to the spring, perhaps, as
Redegeld said this specific
date is currently a busy time
for locals.
