On July 28, U13 St. Colum -
ban boys challenged Clinton
for the "A" Championship
game. Facing the opponent
that handed them their only
loss of the season on Clin-
ton's home pitch, the boys
were pumped for the match.
The game got off to a slow
start with the fans getting wor-
ried with a scoreless game for
25 minutes. Finally almost 30
minutes into the game after
several shots were made
Nathan Earl took full advantage
of a juicy rebound from the
Clinton keeper and found the
back of the net 15 minutes later
Earl would put it in again after a
powerful throw in by Owen
Taylor, ending the fast half 2-0.
Kody O'Rourke made a nice
goal after a strong St Columban
corner kick, assisted by Greg
Reidy and Cole Melady. Earl
would find the net again for his
third of the game. With only 5
minutes left in the game Clin-
ton would foil the shut out for
net -minder Ben tenHag. Not
wanting to end the game on
that note, O'Rourke sent a sweet
30+ yard kick sailing over the
heads of all players straight to
the backof Clinton's net With a
final of 5-1 the U13 St. Colum -
ban boys clinched the "A"
Championship title of the
North Huron Soccer league.
The boys had a fantastic
season, proving that commu-
nication, teamwork and a bit
of fun are the keys to a suc-
cessful season! Huge thank
you to the coaches Nick ten -
Hag and Jeff Campbell for
their time and dedication to
the boys.

The elephant in the room -shared services
CONTINUED FROM > PAGE 8
"In 2000 and 2001 was the
last round of amalgamation
across the province in rural
areas and the savings there
and efficiencies are (yet to be
known) if there really was any
at all," explained Gowing
August 5. "This sharing of ser-
vices is the biggest opportu-
nity for us to save dollars and I
think they (Huron East) are
really questioning actually
how well this will work"
"Some see this as a step to
amalgamation, but this is
"Maybe this is what Central Huron is
looking at as well (as Huron East), said
the CAO of Huron East, Brad Knight.
"I'm not sure the savings that they're
projecting are that significant."
more of an amalgamation of
the service side:'
This joining of services for
the two municipalities was a
unanimous vote from both
parties, which began last Feb-
ruary. Besides the "shuffling"
of employees and changing of
job descriptions, Gowing said
this experience has been
nothing but positive and rate-
payers are pleased by the new
modification.
Currently, North Huron and
Morris-Tumberry are sharing
Public Works, building officials
and some offices with the new-
est addition of conjoining
administrative services also.
The CAO of Huron East,
Brad Knight, said the munici-
pality already shares services
with Central Huron, noting
that 20 per cent of the Brussels
arena levy comes from Morris-
Turnberry. As well as joint fire
areas in West Perth.
"We've had shared ser-
vices before, it's not new to
us," stated Knight.
"Maybe this is what Central
Huron is looking at as well (as
Huron East), I'm not sure the
savings that they're projecting
are that significant"
As for Central Huron, their
Mayor, Jim Ginn said their
recent decision of not moving
forward in the two munici-
palities shared services
agreement is something they
are not against, but it's an
arrangement they would like
to review from a far.

"We've got the luxury of
watching another one of these
shared services agreement roll
out. We thought we would give
it some time and learn from
their lessons, see what they did
right and if there is anything
they did wrong;' Ginn said in a
recent interview.
"No sense in reinventing
the wheel."
For now, Central Huron is
neither against or with the
shared service movement
and as for Huron East, they
discussed the matter at the
last council meeting Aug. 9
