World-calss
international band set
to take the stage at
Celtic Roots Festival
The Celtic Roots Festival
is proud to present some
amazing international art-
ists, celebrating Celtic,
roots, and acoustic music
from around the world!
Bua (USA/Ireland)
evokes the good times that
Irish traditional music so
often celebrates, playing
in a manner largely for-
gotten in today's overly
polished Irish music
world. With a precision
and intensity that is rarely
heard on this side of the
Atlantic, their sound
stands out among modern
bands in the genre by
keeping the music down
the path of tradition while
still being able to raise the
rafters with their playing,
charm with their singing,
and delight with their con-
temporary energy. Bua are
appearing Friday Aug 5 at
3.30 pm and Sat Aug 6 at
9.30 pm. They're also
playing at one of our Rural
Roots: Concerts in the
County: Wed Aug 3, 7.30
pm, at Kingsbridge Com-
munity Church.
Siobhan Miller (Scot-
land) is regarded as one
the finest singers to
emerge from Scotland's
music scene over the last
decade. Her soulful and
stirring renewal of tradi-
tional song has seen her
1
win the Scots Singer of the
Year award twice at the
Scots Trad Music Awards.
She is also a recipient of a
'BBC Young Folk Award'
with Orkney's Jeana Leslie
with whom she has
released two greatly
received albums. Siobhan
began singing in public in
her early teens. Since
then, she has developed
her style through collabo-
rations and studies with
many of Scotland's top
musicians. The Siobhan
Miller Trio are playing Sat
Aug 6 at 8.45 pm and Sun
Aug 7 at 4.15 pm. The
band is also playing at the
Teeswater Town Hall on
Tues Aug 2 as part of Rural
Roots.
Cupola:Ward (England)
The fine talents of Lucy
Ward (2012 Horizon
Award Winner at the BBC
Radio 2 Folk Awards) and
English trio Cupola com-
bine to form this vibrant
new collaboration of
music and song to thrill
folk club and festival
audiences alike. Cupola's
fine instrumental
arrangements and vocal
harmonies provide the
perfect backdrop for
Lucy's songs and strong
delivery - watch out for
this dynamic quartet!
Catch them Sat Aug 6 at
5.45 pm and Sun Aug 7 at
8.00 pm. Cupola:Ward
will also be playing in the
Bayfield Town Hall on
Mon Aug 1 as part of
Rural Roots.
Joe Crookston (USA)
Songwriter, guitarist,
painter, fiddler, and slide
player Joe Crookston was
named 2016 Folk Alliance
International Artist -in -
Residence. He'll surprise
you and awaken the cyn-
ics. He's plumbing for lyr-
ical gold like a social
archeologist. His songs
are universal, his rhythm
infectious and in concert,
he is funny as hell one
moment and transcend-
ent the next. Joe's favour-
ite quote about his music:
"I hate folk music, but I
absolutely LOVE Joe
Crookston's music!"
Catch Joe at the Celtic
Festival on Fri Aug 5 at
8.45 pm and Sat Aug 6 at
5.00 pm.
The Celtic Roots Festival
runs August 5 to 7 in beau-
tiful Lions Harbour Park
