Liberals muzzling officials to hide flaws with cap -and -trade bill
The Liberals must stop
muzzling civil servants and
give them the freedom to
publicly speak about the
government's shoddy cap -
and -trade bill, PC Environ-
ment and Cap -and -Trade
Critic Lisa Thompson said
today.
"To hide the mess she's
created with this bill, the
Premier has now ordered
her members to stop govern-
ment lawyers and officials
from answering serious
questions in committee,"
Thompson said in Question
Period. "These tactics are not
acceptable.
It's time for the Liberals to
take the muzzles off of gov-
ernment officials, so they
can freely answer questions
from the Opposition and
assist with the democratic
process in committee."
The Liberals have more
than 70 amendments to their
own bill and are now
attempting to strong-arm
committee members into
rubber stamping each of
their changes, so they can
ram Bill 172 through the
Legislature and begin fund-
ing their cap -and -trade
slush fund.
Since February, the
Ontario PC Caucus has
pointed out several loop-
holes in Bill 172.
To name a few, funding
decisions will be made in
secret; the Financial
Accountability Officer will
not have access to spending
plans, and taxpayers will
receive no relief, even
though they will be forced to
pay, over the long-term,
nearly $900 more every year
on gas and home -heating.
"The Liberals are rushing
to set up one of the largest

taxation schemes in the his-

Help Guide Strategic Planning
The Board of Directors of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is
pleased to announce that the HPHA will be hosting a series of
community forums for residents to provide input into the organization's
strategic planning process.
"It is important that our strategic planning process is open and inclusive,"
stated Mary Atkinson, Chair of the Board of Directors. "We are seeking
input from our community members to help create a shared vision on
how we will continue to provide high quality care while improving the
experience of our patients, their families and our healthcare team."
The new strategic plan will provide a roadmap for HPHA's four hospital
sites through the year 2020 and include strategies to build upon a
number of significant changes that are occurring at the healthcare
system level.
Any resident with an interest in the future growth and development of the
HPHA is welcome to attend.
