Seaforth business constructs compost bin to aid marijuana greenhouse

Composters are typically
built to decompose organic
material resulting in a prod-
uct that can be used as a
plant fertilizer. While most
are made for the scraps of
vegetables and simple back-
yard waste, this one was spe-
cifically built in Seaforth as a
resource for growing medi-
cal marijuana.
Compost is believed to be
the most essential supple-
ment one can give their gar-
den soil. In nearby Bruce
County, these large canister -
like barrels will play a major
role in the removal of waste
for the narcotic known on
the streets as pot.
Advanced Medical Mari-
juana Canada (AMMCan),
responsible for the manufac-
turing of cannabis, as well as
the processing of drying,
curing and packaging, is a
facility set to open up shop
in Tiverton, Ont., just north
of Kincardine. They cele-
brated their grand opening
last week.
To go along with their
beginnings, a compost bin
will be added to their list of
organic tools.
John Kloeze, owner of
Actium Resources Ltd. in
Seaforth, said upon first
receiving the request, he
labeled it as rather "differ-
ent; but looking for a broad
range of customers, not just
in the standard composting
sector, he admitted to being
glad to assist his services to
the marijuana greenhouse.
"It's just one of those
funny things, they are using
it to dispose organic (mari-
juana) residue," said Kloeze.
For the last five years,
Kloeze, has been building
composts customarily for
poultry mortality, pig stock
duties and other agricultural
requests. He is sure com-
posting is a way to save time
and money for these specific
tasks and the same goes for

the new marijuana facility.
"Rather than burning
them or burying them or
having the gut truck come
around and pick them up,"
Kloeze added.
Kloeze said they're not like
typical backyard composts.
He went on to say that they
are huge insulated drums
that rotate to provide a more
successful composting appa-
ratus and can run from
$8,500 all the way up to
$50,000. The one he person-
ally built for AMMCan is not
the typical procedure pot
growers use to discard their
waste.

marijuana facility that is
composting. The rest are
