The Latest Brain Twister
• Here's the latest puzzle that soine
of our men. at leisure can spend their
moments in solving :--A man finds a
810 gold ,piece ; he goes to the' butcher
and pays him his account with the',
gold piece, which isjust 810 ; the but-
cher pays a baker 810 on Iris account,
also using the gold piece. The baker
•owes the first maxi $1.0 and he pays
him the coin. The man concluding
that he has paid his debts' takes the
money to bank to deposit, and finds
that. it is a counterfeit. Now the ques-
tion is 1:Did he or did he not pay his
debts?" ' •

Otd Residents
About forty years ago the first school
house in this section was erected near
the present village of St. Helens. The
first day it was opened to the public
there was only three scholars present,
and as the trio all arrived, at the
school about the same time a rush was
made for the h or of being the first
ptipitto enter th new building. The
first ho succeede getting inside
the door was A. D. Cameron and the
second John Rutherford, both of whom -
were lads of seven or eight years of
age. From that time till the present
these two boys, long since growls? to
manhood, have resided in the section
and are now honored trustees of the
same school.
