The County Treasurer submitted a

The question in dispute between
'School Inspector Clendeninn, of East
Bruce,'and the county for extra fees
paid that official for the Walkerton
schools, was finally settled, and Mr.
Clendenning exonerated from • any
blame in the matter...

ing the accident -Which. caused the t
death of Kenneth 3Iackenzie; on the
2lstult_, at Great .Falls;: liontana. i)
He was in the employ of the electric tl
street way company, his duties -being
t
partly in the cpmpany's office and
partly as pilot on the railway. Just e
before 11 o'cock. on the night of the j
2'lst he left the power house .for the
last run -for the night, little. thinking
it was to be his last run on earth, • but
it. so proved. At the switch on
Ceti -Out •Avei}ie and Ninth street tete
car jumped the track, and a •few
seconds later the pilot was beneath
the wheels dead: The car, on entering
the switch, had left the track. about
twenty-five feet north of where it was
standing; which showed that it Must
have been running at a •very high rate
'of' speed, and 'striking the Central
Avenue track with great force, the
young pilot, standing bravely at his
post, was thrown over the forward
end of the ear, which passed .over his
body, inflicted such injuries as must
have caused instant death.
The body of the deceased was
removed to Powers' undertaking
rooms, and an inquest was held before
W. J. -Winters, J P., acting corhner•,
was prepared for interment, and
removed to the residence of Mr, John
Scott on Eleventh Street and Fifth
'Avenue north. Funeral services were
held •at 2 p. m. on the 23rd at lar.
Scott's residence, whence the remains
were interred in the -Great Falls
ceuletary,
�'�The deceased was born near Corwhin
Puslinch ,Julie 14th, 1869, had been
about • two years in Great Falls,
Montana, and had only been about
a month in the employ of the electric.
railway company. He was highly
esteemed by his fellow workmen and
by all who knew hint. tor 'his manly
behavioue and Ins exemplary christian
life. Before goitl4 .west' ho had at-
tended and graduated at the Guelph
Business College,• where his gneial dis-
positiion and .upright character had
Made him a general favorite. Itis
aged father and other members of the
family, now living at Lucknow, Ont.,
will have the heartfelt sympathy o£:, a,
wide circle of friends and ,acquaint-
ances in thyloss of a son and brother,
so suddenly cut off in the vigor and
strength of an early manhood, which
gave great promise cf long, a useful
and honorable :life.— Guelph Mercury.
