BRUSSELS Palf----THE Pt 44 is still
of the opinion that. an effort should be
wade to have additional mail facilities
for Brussels by utilizing the noon
train running East and the night
train going west. A petition largely
signed by the business men of this place
and backed up by a similar effort by
the other towns and villages along the
line of the W. G. & B. railway should
go a long way in influencing the Post-
tnaster-General to grant this request.
It will be remembered that energetic'
efforts were talked of some time ago
an reference to this proposal: but it
soon died out. What has Kincardine,
Ripley, Lucknow. Whigham, Atwood,
and Listowel to say about it
Tv death of Mr. James Trow, ex -
M. P. for N. Perth, will be deeply
'regretted in political circles through-
out the Dominion. While in Parlla-
tuent he enjoyed the friendship of
nen of all shades of opinion, as ft
genial gentlemen and man^of scrupn-
Ions personal honor. ---Fr nearly
twenty years he occupied the post of
chief whip for the Liberals, one invol-
ving much inter -communication with
members of both patties, as well
those duties which related to his
the

own party organization. It is a
great thing to say that in all such re-
lations, extended over SQ long a time,
Mr. Trow maintained .:,cordial inter-
courswith both sides of Parliament. He
was a .-man of singular independent
wind, and stood as high in the esti
nation of political opponents as any
man in the Liberal ranks.
Clinton .Neu Era—THE Americans
get the name of ben's, a bad lot of
peole politically, and we are sometimes
told that Canadians "can't hold a
•Windle to them" in this respect, but
there are some things political that
they do better than we do,' anyhow,
and here is 'an illustration. Twenty-
one boltot box stuffers, the last of the
sixty-three election officers of Hudson
/ • county, New Jersey, who had been
tried and convict for, Or had pleaded
• gui4ty to, fraud in connection with the
election of 1890, • were last week
„sentenced in the County Court, in
Jersey City, to terms of from six to
• fifteen months in State Prison or Peni-
tentiary. Thirty-eight others have
been doing the State service in convict
garb for some time back. If_ a few
Canadians guilty of similar frauds,
were treated likewise, this country
wculd be able. to hold its head up a
little higher.
