'Bruce as' the result of ,the unseating of
Mr. Truax. Mr: Cargill is again
selected as -the Conservative candidate,
and no doubt Mr. Truax will .be select-
• ed at the convention this week as the
Reform standard bearer. Both parties
express confidence. The use of, the.
new voters' lists makes 'it more "ilifficult-
to prophecy, but Truax's fr;ods,
speak as if it is merely a question"•'bf
majoeity, • Walkerton gave `over a
hundred of a Conservative majority
last. time. We'll see what it will be
this time.
A gloom was cast over the students•
of the town last week by the sudden
death from brain fever of John Knox,
of Glammis, Greenock township. HA.
was 20 years of age and was attending
the high school. . His fellow students,
to the number of about 130, .followed
him to the grave, school being closed
for that purpose. •
Inspector Campbell, of Kincardine,
and Mr. D. b.:Yule, of • Lucknow,
were here last week deciding the fate
-of the applicants for' third-class cer-
tificates.

herin bearing date the 8th day of
Octcber,1891, there will be offered for sale by
public auction .at McGarry's Hotel in the
Village of Lucknow on
Saturday, the 19th day, of Dec. '91
at two o'clock in the afternoon by Peter
Corrigan, auctioneer, the following property
viz :—The north halves of lots number six,
seven and eight in the first concession of the
Township of Huron in the County of -Bruce.
The lands contain, in the whole, one
hundred and fifty acres, of which about one
hundred and twenty acres are cleared and fit
for cultivation, the balance being timbered
principally with hardwood.
CHICAGO, Dei. 13.—Canada defeated
the "Turks" in Saturday morning's
pull in 27 minutes.
The first evening pull was won by
America, . defeating Canada in - 18
minutes, winning first'prize, $1,000.
. The Scots landed the Irish and sec-
ond money in the second tug in ],O;
minutes, and also received a special;
prize of $50 for the neatest team.
The third pull for third and fourth
money, $300 and $200, was won by
Ireland in 20 minutes, defeating •the'
Canadians, who got fourth money.
