The Evangelist '
The Rev. J. J: White, of Hamilton,
an evangelist, is holding revival meet-
ings every evening in the Methodist
church in this village. Mr. White is
an earnest speaker. and a splendid
singer. He is assisted in singing by
his daughter, who, also accompanies
him on the harp, while he himself
plays -on the guitar. The meetings
are largely attended. -

Miss Miller has recently come from
Lucknow, Canada, to study with Mrs.
Smythe and is already having ,consid-
erable success here as a teacher. •

The Rankin Company
The Rankin Scottish Concert Com-
pany gave one of their popular enter-
tainments in the town hall hero on
Monday evening last, under the
auspices of the firemen's/ band. There
was a good audience and the concert
on the whole wa first-class. 'The
singing of the Masses arrie and Tren
gloss Stevenson comp etely captivated
the audience, and the were repeatedly
encored. The Highland dancing of
Miss Aggic ,Rankin, and the singing
of the old Scottish ballads by • Mr. R.
S. Rankin were 'Well appreciated and
heartily applauded. Mr. Sim Fax was
ajso very good, and created a great
deal of laughter by his comic selections
and make up generally. The Rankins
are one of the best companies in the
Province. •

Convention, of West Bruce, will be
held in St. Paul's church, Ripley, on
Tuesday, November ]0th, commencing
at 10:30 a. m., also at 2 and 7:30 p. m.

Thanksgiving Festival
A Thanksgiving festival under the
auspices of the Dungannon Methodist
church, will be held in the agricultural
hall in that village on the evening of
Thursday, Nov. 12th. 4 hot- supper
will be served from 6 to 8, after which
a splendid programme of speeches,
music, etc., will be given. All ,are
cordially invited.
It Takes Money ,
There is considerable force in the
remark of one of the Baptist preachers
at the' convention, that many good
church people think it sacred to sing
and pray but never to give a dollar.
Churches can't be maintained, preach-
ers paid, gas and coal bills met, and
seats provided for strangers, all /on
faith. It takes hard cash 'to do these
things. '
Hallowe'en Night
The ancient and one time . much
honored custom of celebrating Hal-
lowe'en, was duly observed by the
rising generation of the village on
Saturday night last. Gates were
taken from their'hinges, and thrown
into the -ponds, outhouses overturned,
sign boards removed, etc., but the
most disgraceful scenes were enacted
on Havelock street, to the property of
Mr. Wm. Burns. About twelve
o'clock his house was the scene of a
regular cannonade of large stones, and
only for the timely arrival of the con-
stable'
the windows and doors would -
have been smashed into atoms. So'
far as innocent fun is concerned, we
have nothing to say, but when young
men from fifteen to twenty years of
age will indulge in such outrageous
acts of lawlessness as were committed
on Saturday night, they are deserving
of a term in the penitentiary.

Passed Home
We are called upon this week to
chronicle A demise of another of
Lucknow's old and much esteemed
residents-by-the--death-ef -Mrs-Robert--
Davison, who passed peacefully away
at his residence. on Friday night last.
About, a year ago Mr. Davison and
family removed ;to the village of
Paisley where he entered the furniture
inanufacturing business, but after a
few months he was taken sick with
la grippe. The fatal disease settled
on his lungs, and despite theefforts of
the best medical skill he gradually
grew worse, and a short time ago he
was brought back to Lucknow. He
was; -a member of Court Sherwood,
Canadian '.Order of Foresters, of this
village, and his remains were buried
on Monday last in the Dungannon
cemetery by the brethren of the Order.
Besides the Foresters who ' marched
through the village' in a body, the
funeral was attended by a large num-
ber of citizens and sorrowing friends.
Mrs. Davison and family have the
earnest sympathy of all in their sad
bereavement.
