The fall wheat in this yioinity looks
exceedingly well.
A certain gentlemen around here
had the pleasure of treating his select
friends to some very choice pears last
week. This is not the first time he has
treated them at his neighbor's expense,
for in times past he has raided bee-
hives, melon_patches, and_onion beds
in order to satisfy the growing
appetite of his "friend." Should this
gentleman be caught again as he was
last week, ; he will be exposed in the
papers.
The potatoe crop. in this vicinity is
immense and. some farmers expect to
dig as many 'as two hundred bushels,

very rapidly, and if the weather keeps -
fine during the fall the growth will be
almost"too'far advanced.
Several applications have been
received by our school board for situa-
tion as'teacher. but as yet no- one has
been engaged.'
Our . esteemed teacher. Mr. J. H.
Cameron, spent a few days last week
at the. great Industrial fair, and reports
having had a. good time arid. seen a
splendid exhibition.
Miss Tena and Lily McLean started
for London on Monday to visit friends
and see. the Western Fair. •
M.S. C. Rouse and family have
gone on at trip to Guelph for a few
days.,
Miss Minnie Dixon is at present
lying dnngerous]y ill with inflamation,
but with the medical skill of Drs. Mc-
Donald and Tennant we hope to soon
hear of her recovery.
R. E.. Lane is off to London this
week on a two -fold message—business
and pleasure.

KINLOSS COUNCIL.
The above council met on Septem-
ber 14th, all the •members .being -prep-
ent, the reeve in the chair. The
minutes of the previous meeting hav-
ing been read and adopted,.the reeve .
stated that he had obtained a settle-
ment with the reeve of Lucknow of
the division of the Land Improvement
Fund,. also that he had paid a refund
from West Wawanosh of $9.38, being
one half 4if price paid for building a
bridge on the boundary of that town-
