The readers of the Skew= will re-
member a few letters written during
winter of 1889-9% discriptive of a trip
taken, during the fall previous, on the
prairies of the Great Northwest. We

Vast and high, in its solemn and
silent magnificence. Across the pass-
age the Pie Islands with rounded pie-

iety to the prospect, and the first rays
of the morning sun rising from behind

It was a night to see and not to forget.

was returned to power this polocy was
changed and Port Arthur was selected
as the metropolis, and large amounts
of money were expended to convince
people of Mr. McKenzie's folly.
When the time arrives that public
that public men shall be judged only
by' the results of the their policy and
administration, the historian may find
it necessary to pronounce a very differ-
ent judgment from -the glowing eulogies
so liberally showered on some at the
present,__amEAhrough_ the means of
Alex. McKenzie, and some others, may
not shine nut as skilful party leaders
and versatile politicians, they .wili pro-
tsibly occupy a higher place on the

page as prudent and sagacious states-
