the continued dry weather of the

the crops, and unless we have

yield that 'now appears will be com-

A Pleasant and Moat Successful Gathering.
(From Sae &Aria Star.)
As stated in the Star last week the
County Council of Bruce, accompanied
by the Lucknow brass band reached
Goderich at 5 o'clock on Thursday
evening, and alighting at the Albion
Hotel they were escorted to the Court
House, where they were formally intro-
ducd •to the Huron Council, Warden
Beck and Mayor Butler making appro-
priate
addresses of welcome, which
were happily responded to by Warden
J. S: McDonald on behalf of his breth-

And Bruce in . the early days, which
body he believed was one of the ablest
to he found in the whole country In
view of . the former rel, itions of the two
counties it was most fitting that this
re -union should take place, and he must
.cougratulate the originator of, the visit
whoever he might tie. In re7erring to
the Dominion Parliament, paid a kind-
ly and fitting tribute to the late Prenr-
ier, who, he said, whatever might he
his faults, had always '--been true and
loyal to Canada: ' The speaker then
referred to the Lo al. Legislature, pay-
ing a compliment to the watchfulness
of the Opposition on all matters of
legislation. I There was, he,was (glad td
say, far less of political rancor and
bickering in the House than perhaps
appeared on the, surface, both parties
carefully considering all matters from
the standpoint of the country's inter-
ests. He believed there 'was no need
of politics- in 'either our provincial or
nuni3ipal bodies and he urged that
party should be left out altogether,
and men chosen entirely on their merits
as capable of serving' the public.
