KEEP CO THE GREAT PREMIER CANADA LOSES HER FIRST STATESMAN. The World Mourns the Loss Ad' a Great Mau. Sir John A. Macdonald died at Earnscliffe on Saturday evening last about half past ten, and in his demise passes away Canada's greatest states- man and ablest political leader. The whole country mourns her great loss, and so long as the mother tongue is spoken the name of Sir John A. Mac- donard will go' down in histdry as the brightest sore Canada has ever produced. As a political leader he Stood without a peer, and during his long public car- eer of nearly fifty years, he has won the resPect and honor of even his most bitter political opponents, as well as the admiration and applause of his collegues and• ,followers. Outside of politics Sir John had no enimeies and refitting. to the close of a great public career than the high tributes of ,praise given to his memory from both sides of the Atlantic. Sir The -hot 'summer weat er will very soon be upon us, and it will then be the object of every one to keep cool ; but how ? That, is the question. The condition of the mind influences the condition of the .body, and in order, therefore to keep cool it is necessary that the mind should be free from worry and excitement. But the clothing a person wears has also a great deal to do with keeping cool, ' and it is this fact especially that we desire to impress. •t We have the goods required and it is to our interest and t6 those needing such goods that they shouldknow it. To the ladiesespecially we would. say that our stock of shaker flan- nels, Ants, muslins, lawns, embroidered skirtings, summer corsets, silk 'and lisle thread lace mitts. everfast black cot- ton and lisle thread hosiery Oxford shoes, the famous health brand underyests, and numerous other articles suit- able f1 that- weather', is com- plete, well assorted and the 'prices right. If you do not keep cool after this, it is not our fault, as we are willing to 'do our• best. CAMERON, MURDOCH & CO Lucknow & Dungannon. County Council in Lucknow last week marked a new era in the history of our village, and the pleasant time spent here will not soon be forgotten by the members of that body. Too much praise can- not be given our citizens and more particularly the ladies, for the hearty manner in which they entertained the visitors, and it was the unanimous opinion 'expressed by the officials and members of the council- generally, -that it was the most pleasant week ever spent in, connection with the meetings of the County Council. The banquet on Tuesday was the finest gathering of the kind ever given in the county, and the many compliments paid to the readby -'--life -' iii crit— sspea t s showed that the efforts. of our citizens were heartily appreciated. The drive to Goderich to meet the County -coun- cillors of Huron Was the crowning event of the week, and the royal and hearty reception tendered them by Warden Beck and the other members of Huron will not soon be forgotten y the representatives „ from Bruce. We are indebted to the genial editor of the Goderich Signal, for the follow- ing reference to ' the Goderich reception : 1. AFTER TWENTY - FISIF YEARS. THE COUNTY COUNCILS OF HURON AND BRUCE FRATERNIZE. 'Twenty-five years ago the united counties of Huron and Bruce, which up to that time had been supervised by a joint county council, separated for county purposes, and since that time no opportunity had occurred to enable the representatives .of the two counties to . meet and • exchange courtesies. This year the county council of Bruce held its June meetingin the live town of Lucknow, and reeve Bryan of that town, conceived the idea of having the representatives from the "northern county pay a fraternal visit to the council of Huron, , which met at Goderich the same • week.' A coni- ruunication frotn Mr. Bryan ,to the warden and council of Huron on the subject was heartily responded to, and on Thursdays of • last ••week the inen from Bruce, headed 'by a brass band drove to Huron's'county • seat. Here they were met by warden Beck itnd councillors of Huron, and a formal ece.ption was . held in the' council chamber, where Dr, Rollins, reeve of Exeter; introduced the two councils to each other, en 'bloc Warden Beck in at neat address w(`Tconied the visitors from' Bruce to 1iuron, and said it was pleasant to see the ollspritr'g from the mirth enure back at the •end of tweiity-five years t.) visit the. parent organization, \'\' ardc'n J. Warden Beck occupied the chair and .Dr. Rollins filled the vice.chair. On the Donald of Bruce, and mayor Butler acted as left-hand . supporter. Our space this week does not allow _us to give the full report of the. addresses which we had intended ; suffice to say that the "feast of reason" was• most complete and the exhibitions of oratory proved conclusively that the arena of county politics is an admirable train- ing school for public speaking. Con- spiuous, however, amongst those who addressed the gathering were registrar Dickson, of Huron, a former councillor of the -united counties, and county clerk .Gould, of Bruce, for, the past twenty-five 'years an occupant of that position and for five years previous to that time provisional clerk of the united counties. A feature of the evening was to hear these Nestors talk of. the "sweet long ago." Following is THE TOAST LIST : The Queen—"God Save the Queen." The various sittings of the county council here were of the most, agree- ablenature, and although a great amount of business was transacted and a good deal of discussion indulged in, the best of good humor prevailed and the June session of. 1891 will long be remembered as,the most enjoyable ever spent in te county of Bruce.
