Session Over Five Hundred People Present at the Banquet on Tuesday Evening. !roinlloalto Foat For the last few years it has .been the custom in the Council of the County of Bruce to remove the June meeting from the County sent to the seaport towns of the County where their deliberation could be, strengthened by the refreshing "brees of Lake Huron or the Georgian Bay, but to Lucknow belongs the .. honor of being the first inland town, outside of Walk - ton, where the County legislators have ever met. Some people object to le roaming Coun3il, but if the businesi; can be as efficiently done in gape part of the County as another, there is no good reason why the councilinen shouldnot- take .this means once a year to become trip from John 0' Groats to Lai.ds End may have appeared to our forefathers, By situa- tion Lucknow ie a bonier town arid like border towns of old has seen many a tug of war, 'and has-been the hub. so to speak, of various revolutions before meting her lot with the count of Bruce as a ainst a county at a imeore"u works 'completed, with a comparatively , light debt and a prospect of low taxation.. How- ever the choice was made, and since that date the history of the county of Bruce means also the history of Lucknow. Our citizens feel fully satisfied that the claims of the village have always rete}yed fair consideration at the hands of the various county councils of the county of Bruce, and we flatter ourselves that the meeting of the present council in our midst betokens continued good will. Permit us therefore again to extend you a most cordial welcome with the hope that you will thoroughly enjoy your visit among us, that you will be able to cherish kind reucemberances of generous treatment, and that your deliberations will display such wisdom as will reflect credit on yourselves, the conatituencieo whihh you represent and onr banner county—Bruce. Council .a right royal reception and welponle. In this request he has been met with an unus- ually hearty response from the citizens generally. A citizens committee was formed consisting of working, recep- tion' and decorating branches, • Each department did its work in a highly satisfactory manner. But to the ladies of Lucknow, (always foremost in anything they contribute their as- sistance), must be given the highest. commendation. . The banquet, which was by all means the most important feature of entertaining the visitors could never have been the magnificent success it was, but for the ladies, and. to them cannot be given toomuch credit for keeping up the' credit of Lucknow's hospitality. THE RECEPTION. - At 3:30 the firemens band, under the able leadership of Professor Stand - haft, left the town hall, followed bv'a large number of citizens for the sta- tion to meet the reeves and deputy reeves from the north. At the depot had already gathered a • concourse of people, among whom were many ladies;f As the iron horse steamed in the band struck up a lively tune. The guests were escorted to the vehicles awaiting them, and following the band were taken down town to their different hotels. Opposite the temperance hall, a shower carne up, which produced the remark from one agricultural member, " We have struck Luck -now." Mr. Proudfoot decidedly opposed making any special claims for 'Huron, but "all 1 ask is, that you, the Bruce members,' will come down on'Thursday next to Goderich and we will use you about square." Mr. Proudfoot also said it was the first banquet he had ever been at where there was no liquor. Our Guelete, replied to by Warden -McDonald, of Huron township, who thanked the people for coupling his name. H'e had always been more,or less identified with the village.
