He has thousands of them, I cliii/MIRMONTA2RPPEY.L2W wall, the chair gave way and he was thrown violently to the floor. falling he struck his side against the corner of a bureau and, a couple of his ribs were broken. He was confined to the house for some days, but we are The School Bell The. School Board are having a bel- • fEey erected on the school building back of the main tower, in which to swing the bell. It is a pity the large tower could not be ulilized, but as the openings in it are so small that it is doubtful if the sound could escape sufficiently free to be heard all over the village. The bell will be a great con- venience to both scholars and teach- ers. Gone to London .Mr. R. Brurnpton, of the firm of 13rumpton Bros., general merchants of this village, left for London on Thurs- day morning, where he has purchased a large stock of ready-made clothing, etc. We are sorry -to lose Mr. Brump- ton from our village, but we hope he will meet with the success that his push, energy and business qualities entitle him to in the Forest city. Epworth League • The Rev.Mr. McKinnon, of the Baptist church, will give an address in the Methodist church on Monday evening, May 18th, under the auspices of the Epworth League, on the subject, "The 'secret -of ti ue su ccesslirChris am Work." The lecture will commence at eight o'clock. This society is doing •a great deal of good among the young people, and its membership it con- stantly increasing. Their entertain- ments are of the rrighest'Order, and all who wish to spend a pleasant and profitable evening .should attend the lecture. Good Advice Laok out for swindlers. The county abounds with them, and they resort to all sorts of methods to trap the guile- ness. Do not expect to get a huge bargain from a stranger, and do not attach your signature to any document whatevgr for him. If you want any- thing in dry goods, groceries, boots and shoes, hardware or any -other line pur- chase from those who deal in them in the nearest town. Theyintend to remain, and it is to their in' terest 'to deal with you honestly, and it helps to build up your village; and eventually to enhance the value of your real estate. Lecture by Rev. Dr, Parsons The Rev. Dr. Parsons; of Toronto gave an address in the Presbyterian BRUNIPTON BROS,church here on Friday last, on 1 "Individual and personal responsibility Vitiate and Vicinity ftitigi. Firemen's Practice The Lucknow Fire Brigade, under command of Chief Lawrence and Captain Campbell, were ont for.prac- tice on Tuesday evening, and in a few minutes after the alarm was sounded ' three streams were playing on the main street. Everything worked well and the test -was,- alike satisfactory to the efficers of te company and the citi- zens generally. Protecting the Gensing Root a for the 'protection of the plant c • The Ontario Legislature has paszed known as • "gensing." Of late years •° the Indians have been making a -good thingl)y gathering this plant whichin parts of the .county is quite plentiful. A great (leal of it has been .gathered by the Tndians around the, Saugeen in the church" There was a good audience present.. The address throughout .was most pointed, pithy and forcible. The . duties , of. all. /'in their individual characters'. . were' strongly pressed. The -tendency at. present to form combines, organizations or societies of different kinds, while, they "night contain a few• grains of worth, had at the root of them selfish- ness. Those organizations such as Y. M. 0. A,. ; W. C. T. ; White Cross ; Temperance Society's and C. E. Societies have had their genesis and origin from the neglect of the church to do its. duty, and these mainly evote themselves to one object and onfine their energies to the attainment f , that object. The church has within itself authority and endorsation f. Heaven in the'.woilc committed to s trust. It is bound to look after le highest interests of the world,. to reach and promote temperance, to culcate social purity and 1. instru- ientially regenerate,' the world, and ach individual is responsible and that 'sponsibility cannot be, hid in the lasses. All are under obligation to IVO the mind Of Christ, to he Christ - Ice in character, in consecration and i service.
