It's Unfortunate that clergymen

those who do not entertain their own
'views. • Too often the preachers' lan-
guage detracts from the tone and
dignity of . the pulpit. The ,pulpit

volley of abuse. A clergyman's

such men as Byron and Burns and
hang them like the Roundheads of
old, on the gibbet of ecclesiastiCal
censure, because his hearers see in the
writings of such' authors artistic
beauties, which excite their.admiration,
is certainly an insult to the studious
reader. Temperance should be prac-
tised in the pulpit as well as in the
pew. A clergyman's efforts to coerce
the members of his church becauso his
