Electric Light
Attlie Council meeting on Monday
night last the offer of the Reliance
Electric Light Company was accepted.
The company gives the Council $400
per annum for the use of the steam
power of the waterworks boiler and
engine for 280 nights, and should the
number of lights in the village at any
time reach forty, the corporation is to
receive an additional $100 for the
power, supplied. The company also
agrees to, erect all necessary buildings
of brick for the use of their machinery,
should the present building be found
too small The village. is to be lighted
280 nights in the yeai- by eight 1500
candle power arc lights at a cost of
$1.20 per night, but should they be
required oftener the eouncil have the
power to have them lighted whenever
necessaryast the same rate of 15 cents
per light. Four lights are to be placed
along the main street at the intersec-
tions of Havelock, Outram, Ingles and.
Ross streets, and one each on the
north and south portions of Havelock
street, one on Ross street and one on
Stauffer street. This should light the
whole village, and the. extra cost per
night over the present soar ail lamps
is only a mere trifle. The work is to
be completed within six weeks.

A Disgraceful Row
A terrible 'row, .occurred on Camt.-
bell street on S'atttrday night last,
when one of • the most disgraceful
scenes ever witnessed in the
village took place. couple of young
men, while under the influenCe of
liquor, undertook to settle an old dis-
puteand pounded each other in a
shameful manner. The friends of the
contestants also took a hand in the
fracus and a general row occurecl. It
-is said one of the parties used a razor,
and from the amount of blood „stains
on the sidewalk next day; it looked as
though the weapon had taken effect.
The. whole affaii was a disgrace to the
village, and the guilty parties4hould
be severely punished. Owing to the
absence of the village solicitorit is
hardly likely the trial.will take place
before next week. ,
