E'3 PEOPLES
The farmer frq,pn.the very nature of
his occupation leses many .of the -op=
purtetuitics of observation that arc
enjoyed by men of most other callings.
His immediate surroundings occupy
moat of his time and attention, and
his days of recreation and mingling
broadly with his fellow men are few
and fart between. He should, there-
fore. when opportunity offers for
comparison of his own labors with that

advantage of it. ' We always like to
say a good word for the local shows:
Tliey are even more important in their
place that. the larger ones, and people
should•not allow their interest in the
former to di:,tract their care for the
latter. No person c>,n be ,exhibitor
at one of these shows without receiving
a stimulus to do' better than they
have ever done before. No, person
should hang back and'refuse t,)• exhibit
because the money prize offered may
not be sufficient to pay for the, trouble.
..Every person wholes an animal or an
article that they believe to be possessed
.of merit should . bring it out, to encour-
age the ' show, if for no other reason.
Every such animal or article that is,
brough5 out is • just. one more attraction
to the show, and the more of these•
here ale the-mire--attraetrve -will-the

will accomplish to both exhibitor and

'Watches Stolen
On ~Caledonian Day, during the ex-
citement -of the tug of war contest, a
couple of silver watches were stolen
the clothing of the men who were
engaged in the struggle. Jock Adams
also had a. $1.50 taken from his coat
pocket while the old man's race was.

The animal has been seen several times
by parties living in the neighborh.rod,
and on Monday last five would-be
slayers, armed to the teeth with shot-
guns, rifles, etc., left Lucknow in
search :of his bearship, but they could
not discover his whereabouts: There
is no doubt, however, that the animal
has been there, for his tracks were
plainly 'visible in several places in the
